Why Care About Hair?

Did you know that the purpose of hair is to help protect the body against trauma and ultraviolet damage? It is made of a tough protein called keratin and endowed richly with nerve fibers, making every individual’s build of hair unique enough that one can be identified with one single strand!

More amazing than that is how hair has played a significant role in our history as society has associated it with youthfulness and beauty in women and virility and masculinity in men. Our hair could very much be considered our crown, often to show off our personality and individuality. We spend time and money creating the perfect look, using cuts, colors, and textures to express and signify who we are to the world. That is why so many have taken pride in keeping up with hairdos, styling, and trends.

The first thing one has to know about hair is the type, what type of hair do you have?

  • Straight hair dries straight without a bend or curl, referred to as type 1 hair. Compared with other hair types, straight hair tends to grow more easily and quickly. This hair type is quite uncommon.
  • Wavy hair dries with a slight curve or “S” shape, referred to as type 2

If your hair dries with a defined curl or loop pattern, you have one of two curl types:

  • Curly hair ranges from formed curls to loose ringlets.
  • Coily hair has more defined ringlets, increased volume, and often, a fuller body.

Hair care is more than a hygienic routine, it helps in keeping us looking sleek and groomed, I mean nobody wants to go out with frizzy, dry, and unhealthy hair! It isn’t as straightforward as just washing your hair, hair care also involves making sure you are using the right hair care products and having it groomed by specialists. How do I care for my hair type then?

  • Straight hair needs mild shampoo and conditioners and doesn’t overuse products as this can help from tangles, split ends, and static.
  • Wavy hair needs soft and subtle material like satin pillowcases when sleeping, the use of a microfiber towel when drying hair, combing with your fingers, and application of hair oil to tame frizz and flyaways.
  • Curly hair needs detangling before washing or shampooing and don’t forget conditioner is a must and shouldn’t be missed, using a brush should be minimal and the correct one – a wide-toothed comb is the preferred.
  • Coily hair may be the driest hair type there is, deep conditioning and moisture treatments are a must!

There is so much that goes into hair, from care to styling – that is why so many have a preferred hairdresser or stylist that they trust with their crowning glory. If you haven’t found one yet, it’s easy as you will be able to find the best hair salons near you with a simple search and a click of your mouse. Remember consulting a stylist before having anything done is recommended as it helps you get to know your hair better.
