Facials, Treatment or just a Treat?

Now that we live in a generation where skin care has become part of people’s daily routines and self-care, some still question whether facials are a need or just simply a treat or add-on to our already many skin care regimens. Before we answer that, let’s find out what you go through during a facial;

  • Skin Analysis is important to assure that your skin is getting the right care. There are five different types of skin; normal, sensitive, dry, oily, and combination – each type needing different care.
  • Cleansing is the preparation of the skin before applying exfoliants or masks.
  • Exfoliating is done to remove dead skin cells, it can be done chemically or mechanically.
  • Steam helps open up your pores in preparation for extraction
  • Extraction of black and white heads is essential to help keep the skin from sebum and bacteria collection which may lead to inflammation of the skin.
  • Mask Application is vital as this is where the treatments for skin type come in, usually, the mask will be on until fully dry.
  • Massage is usually done alongside mask application which helps in skin elasticity and reduces fine lines, this is usually the most relaxing part of the facial.
  • The Consultation usually happens before and after a facial as your skin would need continuous care, your esthetician will be able to recommend products and future procedures to help with your skin concerns.

That is certainly a process! You probably thought a facial was just another skincare routine. Well, there is a bit more to know as there are different types of facials to choose from. Here are some of the most popular facials and a slight look into their purpose and benefit:

  • Classic Facial is a great choice for anyone with normal to dry skin, especially for those who are getting their first facial.
  • Lymphatic Massage Facial can boost circulation leaving you with a bright, glowing complexion. Helps to relieve tension and reduce water retention, minimizing puffiness
  • Anti-Aging Facial is very much like a classic facial, however, it utilizes active ingredients and procedures to attack the signs of aging, recommended for more mature skin.
  • Color Light Therapy or LED (light-emitting diode) Facial is used to address breakouts and inflammation, recommended for acne-prone skin.
  • Laser Facial is used to minimize the appearance of uneven skin tone, sun damage, scars, wrinkles, and age spots.

There are many more different facials being offered today as some are more targeted to the need while others are broad enough to cater to all skin types with the main focus of relaxation and cleansing. Whether your purpose is as a treat or treatment, a facial has certainly become part of the solution to many of the skin problems we are experiencing. So, don’t hesitate to get that facial cause you won’t have a problem finding a Spa, Beauty Salon, or Wellness Centre near you that offers facials, all you have to do is look it up and book that appointment!
